To Donate or Not to Donate (Years 9-10)

In New Zealand, hundreds of people are on the waiting list for organ and tissue transplants.

This unit begins with the basics; students learn about the different organs and tissues that can be donated and the process of organ donation.

Next a social inquiry process is used to help students understand how people’s beliefs and values influence their views and decisions about organ donation and what effects these views have on individuals and society.

Students will explore the process of organ donation in New Zealand, people’s views of organ donation, why donor numbers are low, and ways that people can be educated further about organ donation.
